Married At First Sight‘s Ryan Gallagher has confirmed his engagement to Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm has been called off after revealing he is back on the dating scene.
The reality star and seven-time Olympic medallist share a two-year-old son and had been engaged for almost three years.
The Season 5 groom opened up about his recent dating life for the first time on his Instagram, following rumours the pair had split back in April 2025.

“I went on a date on Sunday, I don’t go on too many dates, I’ve only just sort of started doing that,” he candidly revealed.

In the Instagram story posted this week, Ryan then went on to explain how the date went hilariously wrong.
“She said our ‘energies didn’t align’, I don’t think they did either,” he laughed.
He opened up about dating as a reality star. Ryan, while being a former MAFS groom, met Emily while competing on The Challenge Australia in 2022.

“Anyone who’s done reality TV… we’re all a bit… I wouldn’t say out there, but I’m a bit hyper,” he admitted of himself.
“I think that’s why you’ll also find a lot of people on reality TV date each other,” he said.
“Sometimes it works, I know it didn’t work in my case, it hasn’t worked out quite a few times believe it or not,” he laughed.

The split comes after the pair announced their engagement in early 2023, just three months after confirming their romance on social media.
Ryan and Emily welcomed their son Sampson Ryan Seebohm months later in September 2023.

As early as April 2025 however, fans clocked on that both Ryan and Emily had unfollowed each other on social media, just as the pair had stopped appearing in each other’s online photos.
No official statement had been made.

The couple met while competing on The Challenge Australia in 2022, although Emily was in a relationship at the time.
Knowing she had feelings for Ryan, Emily decided to end things with her then-boyfriend.

“Obviously it wasn’t a nice call to make, but I told him what was going on and that there was something there with Ryan and I didn’t see the point in wasting any more time,” she said at the time.
The pair got engaged just four months after meeting in December 2022.

Ryan proposed to Emily at a dam on his farm just outside of Goulburn in NSW.
“I thought it was the right spot to do it – she loves the horses and she often swims in the dam,” he told Woman’s Day at the time.
“I did get nervous though. The [ring] box was making a bit of a bulge in my pocket. So either she knew I was proposing or she just thought I was happy to see her.”

He proposed with a trilogy diamond ring that features two smaller diamonds that symbolise Emily and himself while the larger central diamond represents their love.

Ryan posted a sweet snap of the couple with a simple heart-eyed emoji.
Ryan appeared on Season 5 of MAFS, where he was matched with Davina Rankin.
However, the duo didn’t last and she became briefly involved with groom Dean Wells in what became one of the biggest cheating scandals in MAFS history.
