Free-agent pitcher Max Scherzer has expressed his interest in continuing to pitch, although he does not have a team entering the winter.
Scherzer looked down for the count during the regular season, battling through a thumb injury that had him performing like a bad pitcher. He had a 5.19 ERA in 17 starts, the highest mark of his career.

The former Cy Young award winner did not make the ALDS roster for the Toronto Blue Jays due to his poor season. Still, he finally got healthy and started feeling like himself during the series, and manager John Schienider added him to the ALCS team.
In October, he pitched 14.1 innings, putting up a 3.77 ERA and delivering a gutsy Game 7 performance in the World Series for Toronto.

Scherzer clearly feels like the World Series was a turning point in his career, and it showed that he can pitch at the highest level of the sport.
“I can’t see how that’s the last pitch I’ve ever thrown,” he said.

Now, the future Hall of Famer is tasked with finding a team that can offer a chance to compete in the playoffs and believes that he can still deliver, though his agent, Scott Boras, told USA Today’s Bob Nightengale that he believes Scherzer can get it done.
“I mean, when it’s coming out at 95-96 [mph], and when you go into the playoffs and do what he did,” Boras said to Nightengale.
“It’s really, you know, Maximilian. … it’s not about chronological age to him, it’s about what he can do for a team, what he does in a locker room, the respect he has in the game. He is a remarkably committed performer. … I would expect that he’ll pitch as long as he’s competitive.”
There are teams in need of a starting pitcher on the market, and free agency has a limited amount of quality options, which could lead to Scherzer getting another chance come October.
