Athens municipal workers on Saturday cleaned the iconic glass sculpture “Dromeas” (The Runner) by Greek artist Costas Varotsos, in an operation carried out in partnership with Karcher systems. The sculpture is cleaned every two years.
The 12-meter-high artwork, installed in 1998 across from the Athens Hilton, is composed of thousands of jagged glass panes mounted on an iron frame that depict a runner in motion.
“We are preserving a symbol. We are keeping Athens’ monuments bright – they are the city’s history and memory,” Athens Mayor Haris Doukas said.
