BIRMINGHAM – UAB men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy announced the signing of UMASS transfer Daniel Rivera this afternoon.
“Excited to have Daniel join our program. He is a strong, versatile forward with the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. His experience at UMASS and Bryant over the last 2 seasons will help him efficiently transition to Blazer basketball.”
Rivera is originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico before playing his high school basketball at James Monroe and Our Savior Lutheran in New York. out of high school, he was recruited to play college basketball at Odessa College, a JUCO in Texas. Rivera was name a JUCO All-American after starting in 23 games averaging 9.2 points 4.4 rebounds 1.52 assists per game. He jumped up to the Division I level in 2022-23 when he transferred to Saint Louis, but redshirted the season.
As a college junior he transferred to Bryant and started all 32 games in the 2023-24 season. Rivera put together 13.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game at Bryant. He recorded nine double-doubles during that season.
Most recently, Rivera was a three-star transfer recruit by 247sports.com and spent the last season at UMASS. He started 24 games for the Minuteman while averaging 11.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists during the 2024-25 season. Rivera scored a season high of 29 against Fordham playing in a career high 48 minutes.
Daniel Rivera joins Paul Djobet, Ahmad Robinson, Quaran McPherson, KyeRon Lindsay, Jacob Meyer, and Chance Westry as the seventh transfer portal signee to come to UAB ahead of the 2025-26 season. The Blazers have also added a pair of high school signees in Lance Carr and Salim London in addition to four JUCO signees in Evan Chatman, Ari Gooch, Dayjaun Anderson and João Das Chagas.
SEASON TICKETS
Season tickets for the 2025-26 UAB men’s basketball season are now available. Season ticket packages include all regular season home games and provide the most cost-effective way for fans to attend games at Bartow Arena.
2024-25 season ticket holder renewal applications are available now through uabsports.com leading into the 2025-26 season. The men’s basketball priority seating deadline to complete renewal applications is September 1, 2025. New season ticket holders can purchase by clicking here. Season parking passes are available for $120, and both seating locations and parking will be allocated based on the Blazer Boosters Priority Points System following the September 1st deadline. Premium seating is also available, including hospitality access. Fans may also request additional information by clicking here.
UAB employees and UAB Alumni are eligible to receive a 10% discount off the season ticket price by contacting the UAB Athletics Ticket Office at (205) 975-UAB1. UAB employees are also able to pay for season ticket packages through payroll deduction.
