“This past week, our Rangers family and hockey community suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of Larry Brooks,” said the Rangers PA announcer during the tribute. “His coverage of the sport, the National Hockey League and the New York Rangers in particular for the New York Post, helped connect hockey fans with the team and the game they love.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the Brooks family,” he added.

Brooks served as the president of the Professional Hockey Writers Association from 2001-2003 and was awarded the Elmer Ferguson Award in 2018, given by the Hockey Hall of Fame “in recognition of distinguished members of the newspaper profession whose words have brought honor to journalism and to hockey.”
