NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez is the lone Dore for Vanderbilt men’s tennis heading to the NCAA Singles & Doubles Championships, starting tomorrow at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
The No. 84 ranked Martinez Gomez secured his tournament berth with a singles co-champion finish at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships in October. The sophomore became the first Dore to bring home a Regionals singles title since Daniel Valent in 2017. He is the first to play in the NCAA Championships for Vanderbilt since junior Danil Panarin qualified in the 2023-24 season. The black and gold have advanced to the quarterfinals once in both singles and doubles play. Chad Harris finished as a singles quarterfinalist in 2004 and Gonzales Austin along with Ryan Lipman earned a doubles quarterfinalist finish in 2014.
Martinez Gomez enters Tuesday’s opening round on a six-match win streak that dates back to last season. He begins his tournament up against No. 66 Matthew Forbes of Michigan State, the event’s No. 4 singles seed. The matchup is set to begin at 3 p.m.
