An alliance of 26 of the nation’s leading industry groups have warned major changes are needed to Labor’s overhaul of Australia’s broken environment laws or the government risks creating a slower, more complex approvals system that would impede investment.

Groups as diverse as the Business Council of Australia, the Group of Eight, the Nationals Farmers’ Federation, Tech Council of Australia, CPA Australia, and the Insurance Council signed a joint letter urging Environment Minister Murray Watt and opposition environment spokeswoman Angie Bell to strike a deal.
