Billy Bob Thornton has finally clarified a long-standing rumour surrounding his marriage to ex Angelina Jolie.
It was famously rumoured for years – some may even call it an urban legend – that the pair wore vials of each other’s blood on a necklace during their relationship.
Now, more than two decades on from their marriage, Thornton, 70, has set the record straight.
Billy Bob Thornton has clarified a long-standing rumour about him and his ex-wife Angelina Jolie.
Speaking to Rolling Stone in a new interview Thornton, said the blood vial necklaces “never existed”.
But the rumour wasn’t completely false.
“We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them. That’s a romantic little idea and that’s all that was,” the Landman actor clarified.

It didn’t take long for the blood vial rumour to take on a life of it’s own, with so much media attention on the famous couple.
“But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires, we live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood and this kind of stuff,” Thornton continued.
Reflecting on the wide-reaching fascination in their relationship, Thornton said “it was weird”.
“We couldn’t go anywhere. I mean, we did, and then of course we had times when we would say things that became sound bites or whatever,” he said.
“When we met, I was the more famous one,” he added.
“And then when we got together, for some reason, the people and the media are very interested in celebrity couples, that seems to be a very popular thing.”
Thornton and Jolie were married between 2000 and 2003.
Now, despite their short-lived marriage, Thornton says he and Jolie remain on good terms.

“Angelina and I had a great time together,” he told the publication.
“That was one the greatest times of my life. She and I are still very, very close friends.
“And that was the one that ended up being a really civilised breakup. We simply split up because our lifestyles were so different.”
