Fears that artificial intelligence will wipe out millions of jobs and cause mass unemployment are exaggerated, according to two of the nation’s top economists who argue AI will make tasks easier for most workers.
Westpac chief economist Luci Ellis said the impact of AI will vary by occupation and experience level, with clerical, administration and entry-level jobs more susceptible.
