MMA legends meet in Miami for a December blockbuster that is streaming live on Netflix. Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) has added former UFC legend Anderson “The Spider” Silva to the main card of Jake vs. Joshua: Judgement Day, and he’ll now face former UFC champion Tyron Woodley in a six-round cruiserweight fight (195 lbs).
The bout arrives after Silva’s originally announced opponent was moved/changed earlier in the fall. Originally, Silva and Chris “The All-American” Weidman were scheduled to settle their UFC trilogy outside of the Octagon and inside the ring during Jake vs. Tank. However, that event was canceled and reworked for Paul vs. Joshua on December 19, with Woodley taking Weidman’s spot against the Brazilian fighter.
“I believe that change always happens for a reason,” said Anderson Silva. “I am focused on doing a good job. Always respecting my opponent and showing total respect to the boxing world.”
The new addition to the card pits two era-defining MMA icons in a nostalgia spectacle under boxing rules. Silva brings a global fan base and veteran star power, while Woodley, who has fought on previous big boxing cards, brings crossover intrigue.
“Rising to occasions like this are the moments where legends are born,” said Tyron Woodley.
Jake vs. Joshua: Judgement Day will stream worldwide exclusively on Netflix on Friday, December 19, at 8:00 PM ET. The fight is included with a Netflix subscription, and you can check out the announced card below.
