Gabrielle Turgeon from Sault Ste. Marie has come away from Concours OSM with the grand prize at the competition, held Nov. 15 in Montreal.
Turgeon claimed the Barbara Bronfman prize, which includes a $20,000-scholarship awarded to the top emerging artist.
Concours OSM is one of Canada’s top classic musical events.
Turgeon secured the Barbara Bronfman top prize, a $20,000 scholarship awarded annually to the competition’s foremost emerging artist. Each year, young artists compete for scholarships, development opportunities, and performance engagements designed to support their professional growth.
Turgeon also was awarded the OSM Invitation Prize, offered by Canimex, which provides opportunities to perform at recitals, chamber music or other engagements; the Michèle-Paré Prize, a residency at Orford Musique, during which the laureate will develop a community engagement project and receive mentorship to support and guide their efforts; the Chapelle Musicale Reine Élisabeth Prize, a residency at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium for the 2026–2027 season; and the $25,000 Ann Birks Career Scholarship, which provides targeted professional development, coaching, and performance opportunities.
Turgeon’s success at the Concours places her among Canada’s most promising emerging vocalists, representing Sault Ste. Marie on a national and international stage.
