PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women’s basketball team will welcome the Maine Black Bears to the Pizzitola Sports Center on Sunday afternoon, for the first time since 2019. Tip off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
Donate two non-perishable food items to Brown Athletic’s Annual Food Drive on Sunday afternoon, and you will receive one complimentary ticket to the game.
The Brown women’s basketball team will be signing autographs following the conclusion of the contest.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Scouting the Bears (2-2)
The Bears are coming off of its second-straight win over Boston University on Wednesday night (57-54). Brown looks for its third-straight win this season,The Bears went on to defeat BU on Nov. 19 marking its first win over the Terriers since 2017, and its first home-opening win since 2018.Senior guard Grace Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) made her return to the lineup in Brown’s home-opening win over BU. She led the team in scoring with 14 points, and shot just below 50% from the field. Senior forward Alyssa Moreland (Beverly, Mass./Tilton) finished out Brown’s win over BU in double-figures for her third time this season, and in her second-straight game.Moreland leads Brown in scoring with 14.0 points per game. She currently ranks 10th in the Ivy League in scoring (as of Nov. 21).Alyssa also leads the team and the conference in rebounding, with an average of 10.8 per game. She currently ranks 22nd in the nation in rebounds per game.Brown earned their first win of the season at UMBC on Nov. 16, with a final score of 56-54. Prior to the contest against Brown, the Retrievers had earned their first-ever Power 4 win over Virginia, 61-56 (Nov. 13).
Scouting the Black Bears (1-3)
The Black Bears are coming off its first win of the season against Stonehill on Monday, where they defeated the Skyhawks 79-53.Prior to that, Maine dropped three-straight games to Saint Joseph’s (62-63), NC State (47-66), and VCU (77-81) to open its 2025-26 campaign.Mains is currently outscoring its opponents 66.3-65.8, and is averaging 26.5 field goals per game to its opponent’s 24.8.Adrianna Smith leads the Black Bears in scoring with an average of 21.0 points per game. Asta Blauenfeldt sits below Smith, with an average of 15.8 points per game. Smith was named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team after earning America East Player of the Year in 2023, and was tabbed America East First Team All-Conference in 2023 and 2024. She was sidelined with an injury for the entirety of last season. Maine was selected to finish second, with 55 points and two first place votes in the America East Preseason Coaches Poll.
History
Maine holds an 8-6 record over Brown.The Bears are 4-1 at home against the Black Bears. The pair last met in 2019 at the Pizzitola Sports Center, when the Brown defeated Maine 76-70 in overtime.
