EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — On Friday, David Pastrnak skated toward Morgan Geekie with his arms raised to celebrate his Boston Bruins teammate’s overtime goal against Darcy Kuemper. As Pastrnak approached the slot, the Los Angeles Kings goalie stuck out his right leg to clip the right wing.
Pastrnak turned to go after Kuemper, who was skating off the ice. Linesman Caleb Apperson waved Pastrnak off and stepped in between the right wing and Kuemper. Referee Eric Furlatt grabbed Kuemper’s left arm and guided the goalie toward the Kings bench to keep anything from happening. The Bruins won 2-1.

On Saturday, following the Bruins’ practice at Toyota Sports Performance Center, Pastrnak said Kuemper had texted him to apologize.
“I thought he stuck out his leg at me,” Pastrnak said. “He texted me and apologized. I understand sometimes the emotions run high when you lose. Nothing happened. I take the apology and move forward.”
The Bruins have a history with Kuemper. During last year’s visit to Crypto.com Arena, Kuemper tangled with Marat Khusnutdinov. This prompted Jeremy Swayman to challenge Kuemper to a fight, which did not occur.
