Defenceman Jake McCabe was ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens with an upper-body injury, the team announced in the third period.
McCabe exited the game late in the second period after he had a shot ride up his stick and hit him in the face.
The Leafs defenceman was seen favouring his jaw after the play.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube didn’t have an update on McCabe’s status after the game, other than he had no timeline for the injury.
McCabe played 12:27 over the first two periods before being ruled out at the beginning of the third period. He entered Saturday’s contest with three goals and seven assists over 21 games for the Leafs this season.
McCabe joins a growing list of injured Leafs, including a number of key names such as Auston Matthews, Matthew Knies and Anthony Stolarz.
