Liverpool are in the grips of a crisis under Arne Slot amid a rotten run of form and Reds icon Jamie Carragher has been forced to field comments about potential biasJamie CarragherJamie Carragher has spoken out after Liverpool’s defeat to Forest(Image: Sky Sports)

Jamie Carragher says he would be willing to ask tough questions of Arne Slot amid Liverpool’s current malaise after it was pointed out he did so with the former Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag – if his old club wished to do so.

The Reds are in the grips of an ongoing crisis which has seen the defence of their Premier League crown fall apart. Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield was already Liverpool’s sixth of the season, which leaves them 11th in the table and already 11 points behind leaders Arsenal. That run of form has seen the pressure crank up on Slot.

Online, some fans have accused Carragher and his Sky Sports colleagues for not probing the Dutchman as intensely as they have with former Manchester United boss Ten Hag. in the past. One fan shared an image of Neville and Carragher interviewing Ten Hag during his tenure at Old Trafford and said: “Hi @GNev2 @Carra23. When are you two going to sit down with Arne Slot for a proper chat like this.”

But Carragher swiftly replied and suggested that it was down to Reds’ chiefs to sign-off on such an interview – just as the United hiearrchy did with Ten Hag. He said: “When Liverpool ask us! This interview was set up by the Man Utd press office not Sky Sports!!

“ETH first two games had gone horribly wrong so the idea was to help him by speaking to us about football. We asked tough questions so it didn’t look like what it was, a set up!!”

Fans are not the only one to have taken aim at both Carragher and Neville amid Liverpool’s ongoing crisis. Former Man United star Rio Ferdinand has recently suggested that they too have gone slightly easy on Slot in comparison to Ruben Amorim – the Portuguese having found himself under serious pressure earlier this season.

Speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand said: “I’II send them [Carragher and Neville] a message, I’ll text them. They had [asked] Amorim straightaway [about the formation not working] when he weren’t winning a few games.

“I’d like to see the same energy for Arne Slot right now please. It’s the worst start Liverpool have had to a season since Brendan Rodgers was sacked.”

Liverpool will be aiming to finally get back on track this week across a busy couple of fixtures. The Reds take on PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in midweek ahead of next weekend’s clash against West Ham at the London Stadium.
