The Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) is delighted to announce the graduation of five team members from Sport Ireland’s Clean Sport Educator Training. This intensive programme equips educators with the skills to deliver anti-doping education across all levels the Association.
The IABA-led provision of education in clean sport and Anti-Doping is a key objective under our 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, In Your Corner under Theme 2: Clubs and Theme 3: Participation and Performance.
Doping is contrary to the spirit of our sport. Every boxer, coach, club administrator, bout official, elected official, clubs and unit has a responsibility to ensure boxing is free of doping. Members are bound by this policy, and by the provisions of Rule 7.5 of IABA’s Rulebook:
The newly qualified Clean Sport Educators are:
Padraig McCullough, Tredagh BC, Co. Louth
Fergus Turner, Enniscorthy BC, Co. Wexford
Dino Dallat, Ballymote Boxing Club, Co. Sligo
Nicola Foley, IABA Education & Training Officer and Tralee BC, Co. Kerry
James Geraghty, IABA National Development Manager and Garda BC
The course focused on building confidence and consistency in delivering clean sport education. Key elements included:
Master Template Training: Ensuring clarity and structure in presentations.
Practical Delivery: Participants prepared and presented on topics such as What is Clean Sport?, The Prohibited List, Medication Checks, and Athletes’ Rights.
Peer Feedback & Assessment: Educators were evaluated on confidence, accuracy, audience engagement, and clarity.
Scenario Discussions: Adapting content for different audiences and addressing real-life challenges.
This training also served as an accreditation process, with participants assessed through presentations, peer feedback, and engagement. Completing this programme means these educators are now equipped to deliver high-quality clean sport education to athletes, coaches, and clubs nationwide.
The tutors, working alongside IABA Anti-Doping Officer Sean Crowley, will begin developing and implementing a cross-Association Anti-Doping education plan, which will provide in-person and online learning for boxers, coaches, club administrators, parents/guardians and support staff.
IABA thanks Sport Ireland Anti-Doping for its support in promoting integrity and fairness in sport.
