The award comes after the young gun won Rising Star at the 2025 W Awards.
Zippy Fish has been honoured in the 2025 AFLW Players’ AFLW MVP Awards presented by KPMG after nominations were announced last week. The 19-year-old was awarded the AFL Players’ Best First Year Player Award, presented by P3 Recovery, announced via social media on Tuesday evening.
The news comes after Fish was named the 2025 Telstra Rising Star at the W Awards overnight in Melbourne. The utility enjoyed a breakout season, playing all 12 rounds and averaging 21.2 disposals, 3.3 tackles and 442 metres-gained – the most for any first year athlete across the league.
On debut in Round 1 against Richmond, Fish equalled the record for the most disposals in a debut AFLW game with 26.
She went on to earn her Rising Star nomination after Round 2 against Gold Coast where she notched 27 disposals, including eight intercepts, and used the ball at 85 per cent efficiency.
She was recruited to the Sydney Swans with pick five in the 2024 AFLW Draft. Playing for East Fremantle, she gained the attention of recruiters with her blistering pace after having only picked up the game just four years prior.
