The Chiefs have gone from strength to strength over the course of Patrick Mahomes’ tenure, grasping a trio of Lombardi Trophies to become the league’s preeminent dynasty of the post-Tom Brady era.

But even the greatest empires fall apart. No one — not even Kansas City — can be faultless for eternity. And after dropping six of their first 11 matchups this season, the Chiefs are under threat of posting their worst record since Mahomes came into town.

Mahomes and Kansas City remain in the hunt for a postseason berth in 2025. But a return to the playoffs isn’t guaranteed. And as the losses pile up, it has some wondering just where this season would rank among the Chiefs’ worst in recent memory.

With that, here’s what you need to know about Kansas City’s worst records under Mahomes.

What is Patrick Mahomes’ worst season?

The Chiefs have found plenty of success since Mahomes joined their ranks in 2017, making the playoffs seven consecutive seasons since Mahomes became starter. During that spell, they have three 12-win seasons, two 14-win campaigns and a 15-win showing in 2024.

Kansas City’s worst performance under Mahomes’ tutelage was an 11-6 finish in 2023. Andy Reid’s side dropped five of seven games from Weeks 8-16. A shock defeat to the Raiders on Christmas wasn’t becoming of a team with Super Bowl hopes.

The Chiefs found their footing anyways. They downed the Dolphins, Ravens and Bills in confident fashion before outgunning the 49ers in overtime to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Patrick Mahomes’ longest losing streak

After falling to the Colts, Mahomes’ longest losing streak now stands at three games. He had failed to hit that mark in any of his first seven years as a starter. But after dropping matchups to the Bills, Broncos and Indianapolis in back-to-back-to-back games, Mahomes has joined the likes of Zach Wilson, Dillon Gabriel and others to lose three games in a row. That streak could grow longer over the next few weeks.
