Hollyoaks spoilers follow for the latest episode to air on E4 and stream on the Channel 4 service.
Hollyoaks’ dark storylines for Ste Hay and Mercedes McQueen have crossed over in the latest episode — and it looks like things are only going to get worse for both. Ste has been through the ringer lately with his son Lucas physically abusing him and his developing feelings for teenage Dillon Ray (Lucas’ ex and the father of Ste’s grandson, Baby James).
Meanwhile, Mercedes is struggling with the guilt of shooting Tony Hutchinson and losing his baby she was carrying. She’s also been threatened by texts from an anonymous person.
In tonight’s episode, Ste walked in on Dillon talking about what’s happened between the two to Frankie Osborne. He was furious that the youngster had told someone after promising not to.
Dillon later came to Ste’s place to find him staring at the wall. “You’re just immature, aren’t ya? Why would you tell her?” he said as a single tear formed in his eye.

“If she can put two and two together then so can Lucas. Just get out. Leave me alone. You can’t be around me anymore.”
Meanwhile, Warren Fox was determined to prove it was Goldie sending Mercedes the anonymous texts. He raided the McQueen house for evidence.
She insisted it couldn’t be Goldie, but Warren found a hidden phone. Mercedes still wasn’t convinced, and John Paul soon came in and demanded that everyone — Goldie and Warren included — had to go to The Hutch for a drink to support Sienna Blake.
At the event, Goldie handed Mercedes an envelope that had been delivered to the house, which contained a photo with the words ‘KILLER MCQUEEN’ on it. Warren again accused “twisted little cow” Goldie and threatened to kill her, but John Paul revealed the burner phone was one he confiscated off a kid in school.

Mercedes dragged Warren outside and called him out for his behaviour, so he decided to sulk off to Liverpool. Their row was overheard by the duplicitous Gemma Johnson, who offered Mercedes some anti-anxiety pills and promised they weren’t dangerous or addictive.
She then went to The Loft, where Ste appeared next to her at the bar. He asked her about the pills and she offered him some.
“I think my life’s about to blow up, and I don’t wanna be sober when it does,” he said, as they knocked back both booze and the pills.
Both characters are on a dangerous path, and it’s especially bad for Ste as he’s struggled with addiction for years. How far down the hole will he fall?
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
