The Netflix murder mystery “Untamed” was initially promoted as a limited series, but it’s now been renewed for a second season.

Season 1, which premiered on July 17, was a self-contained story with a beginning, middle, and end. Given the show’s limited series status, it seemed possible that “Untamed” was a one-off.

However, the show’s popularity — it garnered 24.6 million views in its first week — and the cast’s comments about wanting to return gave fans hope for season 2. And those hopes were not in vain.

“I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of ‘Untamed’ to life,” season 1 star Eric Bana said in a statement to Variety on Tuesday, July 29. “The response to season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique.”

Warning: Spoilers ahead for season 1 of “Untamed.”

Bana plays Kyle Turner, a National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB) special agent at Yosemite National Park. During season 1, viewers learned that Kyle and his ex-wife Jill (Rosemarie DeWitt) had a young son named Caleb who was abducted and killed in the park several years prior.

Still grappling with the loss of his son, Kyle loses himself in his cases, the latest of which involves a woman named Lucy Cook (Ezra Franky), whose body falls off El Capitan in Yosemite.

After several twists and turns, Kyle learns that his mentor and friend, Chief Park Ranger Paul Souter (Sam Neill), was secretly Lucy’s biological father. Paul confesses that he shot Lucy after she repeatedly blackmailed him for money and then takes his own life.

After closing Lucy’s case, Kyle finally feels ready to leave Yosemite behind at the end of season 1. He gives his partner Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago) a box of Caleb’s old toys for her son before driving off to his next chapter.

What will season 2 of ‘Untamed’ be about?

While no plot details have been revealed just yet, it seems likely that season 2 of “Untamed” will follow Kyle to his next assignment at another national park. He’ll probably solve another mystery once there.

“I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans,” Bana said in a statement.

It’s unclear whether season 1 stars like DeWitt and Vasquez will reprise their roles for season 2, but Vasquez is definitely interested.

“I am waiting for the phone call. I’m like, ‘Find me on the horse on the mountain. I’m ready to go,’” she told Us Weekly earlier this month.

Season 1 of “Untamed” is available to stream on Netflix.
