Football South Australia is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Tony Farrugia, former General Manager of the South Australian Soccer Federation, who passed away peacefully last night surrounded by his family after a long illness.

A Life Member of Football South Australia, Tony’s legacy is woven into the fabric of the game in this state. He was instrumental in reshaping South Australia’s top-flight competitions, introducing the Final Series and setting the foundation for the exciting, competitive structure we see today.

Tony was a driving force behind many of the initiatives that have helped preserve and celebrate the game’s rich history in South Australia. He strongly supported the research and publication of Soccer Football in South Australia: A 100-Year History, was a founding advocate for the SASF Hall of Fame, and was a key figure in the formation of Adelaide United Football Club—helping pave the way for South Australia’s presence in the national competition.

Tony Farrugia’s contributions went far beyond titles and roles. He was a passionate advocate for the game, a mentor to many, and a proud supporter of football at every level.

We extend our deepest condolences to Tony’s family and loved ones. He will be remembered with great respect and appreciation by the South Australian football community.

Rest in peace, Tony.
