Police are probing gang links after a man in his early 20s was shot dead in Sydney’s west on Friday, with two men now in custody after crashing a ute while allegedly fleeing the scene.
Emergency services found a man with gunshot wounds to his neck, chest and leg after responding to reports of a shooting on Carinya Street, Blacktown, about 11.50am on Friday. The man was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
Police were unable to stop a black Mazda ute from fleeing the scene, and began a pursuit before it crashed on nearby Kildare Road. A teenager and a man in his early 20s were arrested after trying to flee.
Blacktown Police Area Commander, Superintendent Brendan Gorman said the victim and both men in custody were known to police, and that any potential underworld links would be explored as part of an investigation.

He said police heard the gunshots as they were fired, and were on the scene “within seconds”, leading to the alleged offenders’ arrest within a “very short time” after the shooting.
Forensic officers found two unloaded guns and bullets dumped in front of a suburban home a few hundred metres from the shooting.
