Fans of the Control game franchise may be in for a surprise at the December 11 The Game Awards opening night. While there has been no confirmation, it looks as though Remedy, the game studio behind Control, may be preparing to show off gameplay or other content from Control 2 at the annual gaming event. This speculation is fuelled by a recent patent that was filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for “Control Resonant,” which is now assumed to be the name of the upcoming Control 2.
The patent is for the Control: Resonant name, but covers a number of topics, including video games, computer software, game consoles and controllers, clothing, and even lanyards, among other items. The items mentioned in the patent filing line up with what’s expected from a game launch and marketing campaign, and the timing lines up with a potential upcoming showing. Control 2 was confirmed as long ago as 2021, but Remedy has been rather quiet about it since, apart from a brief confirmation in early 2025 that Control 2’s development was in full swing. There are indications that Control 2 will be accompanied by an announcement of a PC version of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach at this year’s The Game Awards show.
