On Friday, the New York Rangers were in town and demolished the Bruins, 6-2, scoring a pair of goals in each period. Boston was down 4-0 before Casey Mittelstadt got the first goal, which was followed shortly after by Morgan Geekie getting his 18th goal of the season, the second-best mark in the NHL. The loss dropped the Bruins to 14-12-0 and gave them four losses in their last six games.
The Red Wings are 13-11-1 on the year and 5-5-0 away from home. They have lost three straight and four of their last five, with the last two losses both coming in 6-3 contests. Detroit was at home on Friday hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning, but couldn’t get back in the win column despite J.T. Compher scoring the game’s first goal. Michael Rasmussen and Dylan Larkin scored in the second period to make it 4-3 in favor of the Lightning headed to the final period, but then Detroit gave up 2 more goals to get handed the loss.
