Iconic mixed martial art (MMA) champion, Jai Herbert, was surrounded by his family and friends as he took to the stage of Wolverhampton’s The Halls to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Wolverhampton for his work in the field of sport.
The Wolverhampton-born MMA fighter, from Low Hill, also known as the ‘Black Country Banger’, rose through the cage fighting ranks to compete in the world-renowned Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), representing the Black Country in the ring.Â

Now, the fighter has traded the ‘octagon’ [UFC ring] for the stage as he walked the carpet to give students a motivational speech about dedication and perseverance, as well as collect his honorary degree.
