CINCINNATI – Xavier dropped its BIG EAST opener, 104-39, vs No. 1 UConn on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center.

The Musketeers moved to 4-3 (0-1 BIG EAST), while the Huskies improved to 7-0 (1-0 BIG EAST).

Xavier continues BIG EAST action on Thursday, Dec. 4 vs Providence. Tip-off is slated for 11 a.m. with the game being aired on ESPN+ and The Varsity Network.

 

NOTABLES


The defending national champion Huskies never trailed in the contest. UConn forced 31 Xavier turnovers, converting the miscues into 42 points.
Vivien Nejašmić was the lone Musketeer in double figures, scoring a career-high 12 points. She was 3-for-8 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the foul line. The guard added four rebounds.
MacKenzie Givens added nine points on 4-for-9 shooting. The guard/forward added a team-high six rebounds and two blocks.
Mariyah Noel chipped in nine points, going 9-for-12 from the charity stripe. She added a team-high three steals and two assists.
Meri Kanerva added three points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal. Petra Oborilova finished with four rebounds and three points. Lucía Martínez López had four rebounds.
Xavier finished with a .217 field-goal percentage (10-for-46) and went 5-for-20 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 14-for-18 from the foul line.
Six Huskies reached double figures, paced by Allie Ziebell’s game-high 16 points. UConn hit 50 percent of its three pointers (18-for-36).
UConn won the battle on the glass, 45-30, and scored 30 more bench points (45-15). UConn also scored nine more second-chance points (17-8) and held a 35-8 advantage in fastbreak points.
A total of 3,536 fans attended Sunday’s game, the 19th largest women’s basketball crowd in Cintas Center history.
