A man is under arrest after allegedly shooting a crossbow at police in Melbourne’s north-east yesterday.

Officers attended an address in Reynolds Road, Eltham, at about 1.40pm after reports a man armed with a crossbow was behaving erratically.

They attempted to contact the man but were unsuccessful.

Police cordoned off the property, and it’s alleged the man came out from the back and loosed the crossbow at two officers.

Police drew their guns and shots were fired at the man, who went back inside.

The man was not physically injured and surrendered to police a short time later.

The 26-year-old Eltham man has been charged with multiple offences, including assaulting police and reckless life-threatening conduct.

He will appear in court today.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
