Now, the question becomes when Stein will officially leave Oregon to work for Kentucky on a full-time basis. After all, Stein and the Ducks will make the upcoming College Football Playoff, so they could be playing games until the CFP National Championship Game on January 19.

“Per a source, Stein is expected to call Oregon’s offense throughout the College Football Playoff,” Thamel wrote on Twitter. “He’ll juggle both jobs until the Oregon season ends.”

Thankfully, with Oregon off for a few weeks until the first round of the playoff, Stein will have plenty of time to arrive in Lexington, have his opening press conference, and get a good lay of the land when it comes to the current roster and UK’s recruiting efforts for the 2026 season before making his way back to Eugene. Wednesday marks the start of the early signing period for high school recruits, while January 2 is when the transfer portal opens.

It’ll definitely be a tricky endeavor, but it’s one that Stein and UK are ready to embark on.
