PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women’s basketball team returns to the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Wednesday night to host the American Eagles. Action from University City is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on FloCollege and NBC Sports Philadelphia. 

Last Time Out

The Drexel women’s basketball team was defeated by the Saint Joseph’s Hawks, 57-55, on Saturday afternoon at Hagan Arena on Hawk Hill. The Dragons received 20-point performances from Amaris Baker and Laine McGurk. With the loss, Drexel will play in the third-place game of the Toyota Women’s Big 5 Classic against Temple on December 7 at the Finneran Pavillion on the campus of Villanova.

Baker paced the team, scoring 22 points on 8-for-18 shooting and 3-for-4 from deep. McGurk added 20 points to her stat sheet and made six free throws, a career-high. It is the first time that two Dragons scored 20 points in a single game since Chloe Hodges and Amaris Baker each scored 20 against Penn State on November 24, 2024.

The Dragons shot 50 percent from long range and shot a near-perfect 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.

Drexel and American is set to renew its series for the 16th time on Wednesday night. American owns a 10-5 advantage over the Dragons and has won the past two meetings. At home, Drexel is 3-4. The Dragons were last victorious at home against the Eagles on December 2, 2009, defeating the visitors, 50-40. 

Last Time Against American

The Drexel women’s basketball team went cold at an inopportune time on Sunday afternoon at American, falling to the host Eagles, 47-41. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Dragons, who went more than 10 minutes without a field goal in the second half after briefly taking a two-point lead.

Sarah Curran led Drexel with nine points, while Meghan Creighton and Rachel Pearson each added eight. Fiona Flanagan pulled down 12 rebounds. Alexis Dobbs was the only player in double figures on the afternoon, putting up 17 for the Eagles.

Looking Ahead

Drexel travels to the Finneran Pavillion on Sunday, December 7 to play in the Toyota Women’s Big 5 Classic. The Dragons will face the Temple Owls in the third place contest set for 2:15 p.m. on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
