Celtic fans can choose, like a pick and mix, which Rangers era has provided them with the best comedy moments.

This current one? The one under Philippe Clement? Or even Michael Beale’s comical reign?

But perhaps, the one many would agree on is the era involving loudmouth Joey Barton, and how he was sent packing by Scott Brown before he could even get his Christmas lights up in Glasgow.

Even Barton’s former Rangers teammate, Martyn Waghorn, thinks he was dealt with by Celtic and their legendary captain.

And how those from within Rangers were trying to stop Barton from making a fool of himself.

Martyn Waghorn on watching Celtic hero Scott Brown get the better of Joey Barton from Rangers’ bench

In 2016, Celtic slapped Rangers 5-1 at Parkhead, in one of the most memorable derby games in recent times.

As many would remember, before the game, Barton ran his mouth like he had come up from England with a trophy-laden career, and not more relegations than trophies to his name.

Whilst every Celtic fan knows Brown toyed with Barton on that day.

Waghorn, who came off the bench for Rangers on that day, stated Brown gave Barton the ‘absolute run around.’

Speaking on Under The Cosh, Waghorn even shared that Mark Warburton, the then Rangers manager, was warning Barton about his gobby antics.

Not long after, Barton was out of the Ibrox door and going down as one of the worst players to have graced Scottish football.

“I think we drew with them once (out of five games that season),” said Waghorn. “We got battered at their place 5-1 or something. It was tough.

“We signed Joey Barton, Clint Hill, and Niko Kranjcar, so we had big personalities. Joey was spouting his mouth, ‘Oh, we are going to win.’

“And battering Scott Brown in the press. ‘It’s only Scotland. I am going to find Scotland easy.’

“The gaffer, Mark Warburton, was like, ‘Joey, you need to be quiet. It’s not like England. You can’t just say stuff. It’s getting out there.’

“Scott gave him the absolute run around. It was a tough day. It was hard because there were exceptions on us. I think the gaffer found it hard. The lads found it hard.”
