EXCLUSIVE: Charlie Plummer (The Long Walk) will star alongside Angelina Jolie in Sunny, the dark thriller riffing on classic mafia films from Norwegian filmmaker Eva Sørhaug (Tokyo Vice, Yellowjackets).
No word on the role Plummer is playing. Currently in production, Sunny follows a female gangster who fights to protect her sons — and herself — from an abusive drug kingpin. But when a devastating event occurs, she only has a matter of hours to plot their permanent escape.
Hailing from Gramercy Park Media, A Higher Standard, and Nickel City Pictures, the film is written by William Day Frank, who conceived the story with Sørhaug. Gramercy Park Media’s Nathan Klingher is producing alongside Jolie, Nickel City Pictures’ Mark Fasano and A Higher Standard’s Jeffrey Greenstein, in association with Choice Films, with Sørhaug exec producing. A Higher Standard is handling worldwide sales, with WME Independent co-repping domestic.
Most recently seen starring alongside Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson in Francis Lawrence’s The Long Walk for Lionsgate, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, Plummer prior to that starred alongside Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche in The Return, a Bleecker Street drama inspired by passages from Homer’s Odyssey. He broke out with his starring role in Andrew Haigh’s A24 coming-of-age film Lean on Pete, for which he was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor at the 2018 British Independent Film Awards and won the Marcello Mastroianni Award at the 2017 Venice Film Festival. Subsequently seen in Ridley Scott’s Academy Award-nominated All the Money in the World, Plummer has most recently been at work on My New Friend Jim, a dark comedy where he stars alongside Rob Lowe and Keith David. We were first to report on both that project and Sunny.
Plummer is represented by Gersh, Untitled, and Peikoff Mahan.
