And we’re back, well and truly under light now. Mitchell Starc with the pink ball, Joe Root on 68. What more could you want?

First ball: Three slips, full and on fifth stump to Root. He bunts it down the ground to a deep mid-off and takes the single. Allan Border wants to know why the man is back, only explanation is to give Root a single and bring Ben Stokes on strike. Border is not impressed – “you need to attack both players”.

Second ball: Full and swinging away slightly from the left-hander, Stokes hits it crisply but straight to cover.

Third ball: Full again, a little wider. Stokes hits a little squarer. Straight to point.

Fourth ball: Onto Stokes’s pads and clipped to square leg. No run.

Fifth ball: Full and on target. Great ball. Threatening to shape and Stokes does well to keep it out. Starc again takes the ball to the umpire asking for a change. Again, the Australians are rebuffed.

Sixth ball: Back of a length on off and Stokes is defending. Slightly awkward but no real trouble.
