Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for SPORT, Mr DUIGAN
Mr President, with respect, that’s simply not good enough. You made the decision to provide advice to this Council that was provided to you by Stadiums Tasmania. That advice, if that’s what it is, kind of fails the pub test because we’re talking about the Brisbane Olympics, which are seven years away, and you have apparently been advised by Stadiums Tasmania that the AFL was asked by Stadiums Queensland to get out of the People First Stadium.
This is a question of integrity. Don’t point us to Stadiums Queensland. We need to understand from you whether the advice that Stadiums Tasmania provided to you is true and honest advice – and if you believe it is, to stand up there and say that.
We will make some further inquiries, because it’s important, minister – I’m sure you agree – that we are are honest in here. So, will you confirm?
Mr Duigan – Will I confirm what?
Ms O’CONNOR – Will you confirm that Stadiums Tasmania’s advice to you is honest and accurate advice? It is different from the information that we have, and this goes to your integrity as a minister.
Mr Duigan – No, it doesn’t. What a load of nonsense.
Ms O’CONNOR – It does! You can’t get up in here –
Mr PRESIDENT – Order.
ANSWER
Mr President, I point to the answer I gave yesterday, which was advice provided to me as minister from Stadiums Tasmania. My understanding is that they checked it with the AFL as well.
