Transfer news developing over the past 24 hours suggests that Sam Welsford is getting closer to joining Ineos Grenadiers, although he hasn’t signed the contract yet, according to our well-informed sources. Additionally, in even bigger news, sources have told us that the British team are working on signing Oscar Onley from Team Picnic PostNL for 2026 in a last-minute transfer.
Onley is currently training in Australia after a successful season that culminated with the Scottish rider achieving a superb fourth place at the Tour de France. During the summer, interest in Onley increased significantly, with several teams exploring the possibility of signing the rider. However, Picnic PostNL appeared confident in their efforts to retain their star athlete after avoiding relegation from the WorldTour and enjoying an overall successful season on many fronts.

Ineos Grenadiers have been interested in Onley for months, with senior management notably impressed by the rider’s performance at the Tour. However, it seemed that a transfer to Ineos was unlikely as the summer dragged on, especially since Onley was contracted to the Dutch team until the end of 2027 and Picnic PostNL were keen to extend his deal beyond his current terms.
