England back-rower Tom Curry will face no further disciplinary action following a review into the alleged clash between him and Argentina head coach Felipe Contepomi.

In the aftermath of England’s 27-23 win over Argentina at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, a scuffle broke out between the two sets of players, with Los Pumas players unhappy over Curry’s late tackle on full-back Juan Cruz Mallia – which led to the Toulouse back rupturing his ACL.

‘No formal sanction will be issued’

Things quickly escalated from there. Speaking to the press after the match, Contepomi alleged Curry shoved him in the chest and told him to ‘f*** off’ with the Argentina boss describing Curry as a ‘bully’.

“It was not only the tackle by Curry because it’s probably part of his nature to bully people,” said Contepomi. “He came into the tunnel, and he gave me a shove on the chest.

“Maybe that’s just in his nature, I don’t know, but those are the guys whom we are rewarding and praising – maybe that’s where we want rugby to go.”

Following the match, Argentina lodged a formal complaint with the Six Nations – the organising body behind the Autumn Nations Series – with the RFU later offering to cooperate with any required evidence.

However, following an investigation by the organising body, Curry will now face no further punishment.

“Following the Quilter Nations Series fixture between England and Argentina, at Allianz Stadium on Sunday 23rd November, Six Nations Rugby; the Official Tournament Organiser of the Quilter Nations Series, has reviewed all available information, statements, and footage, relating to an incident between England Rugby player, Tom Curry, and Argentina Head Coach, Felipe Contepomi,” a statement from the Six Nations read.

“On considering all factors leading into and beyond the incident, based on the balance of information, and acknowledging a highly charged end to the fixture, no formal sanction will be issued to either party by Six Nations Rugby on this occasion.”

Despite receiving no ban for the alleged incident, the incident will remain on Curry’s record and could be used against him should similar events occur in the future.

“However, this incident will remain on record and should a similar incident by either party occur in future tournaments, the record of this incident will be brought to the attention of the relevant Disciplinary Committee,” the statement added.
