Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for SPORT, Mr DUIGAN
You will recall that I asked you the day before yesterday about the AFL’s decision in Queensland to walk away from the People First Stadium, which has become a massive loss‑making venture for the AFL. You came back in here yesterday and indicated that your advice from Stadiums Tasmania was that the AFL had walked away from the People First Stadium at the request of Stadiums Queensland in preparation for the Brisbane Olympics in 2032. The Brisbane Olympics is seven years away.
I want to test the quality and veracity of the advice that you got from Stadiums Tasmania about the reasons that the AFL has walked away from the People First Stadium. It is our understanding that the AFL has basically handed the keys back to Stadiums Queensland because their investment in that stadium is a loss‑maker for them.
ANSWER
Mr President, I thank the member for her question. It is probably a question for the Queensland Government. It’s not a level of –
Ms O’Connor – No, it’s not, because you’ve given an answer in here that has drawn Stadiums Tasmania into it.
Mr DUIGAN – As I have said, I have provided the information as I have been advised by Stadiums Tasmania. I don’t have further information to add to that.
