Appearing on The Jess Row Big Talk Show, Sarah, whose own mother died in a car accident in Argentina in 1998, explained how the late royal was a maternal figure in her life.
She said: “The thing about the Queen was that she was more my mother than my own mother. The Queen was an iconic, legendary, stalwart, steadfast, invisible hand of love behind your back.”
Although they are known to have had a loving relationship, Sarah admitted that she did “keep her wits about her” when she was in the presence of the late Queen.
On the first anniversary of the late Queen’s death in September 2023, Sarah referred to her as a “second mother” in an emotional tribute.
She wrote: “I will miss her more than words can express.”
Despite their turbulent relationship, Sarah did pay tribute to her own mother in a post on the anniversary of her late mother’s death last year. She wrote that she was “far too young to be taken from us”.
