The hilarious inspiration behind Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s matching outfits at the Marty Supreme premiere has been revealed.
The couple’s bold matching orange appearance yesterday at the Los Angeles premiere turned more than a few heads as they strutted down the carpet.
While it was sweet that they matched, there was some confusion over why, out of every colour, they landed on orange.

Turns out, it’s a nod to a marketing skit A24 released on Youtube, as a promo for the movie.
The video, Timothee_Chalamet_internal_brand_marketing_meeting_MartySupreme, shows a mock zoom call with the marketing team of the film and Chalamet.
During the call, they are throwing around marketing ideas for the movie, when Chalamet suggests giving the film a signature colour, using pink and the Barbie movie as an example.
“When you think Barbie what do you think… pink,” he says.

”What would the same be for Marty Supreme? What’s the Marty Mouser ball that I’m hawking?
“What’s the brilliant stroke of genius Marty has in the movie where a white ball can’t be seen against a white piece of paper? What colour does he want to jump to?”
“Orange,” the team reply.
“Orange, yes,” Chalamet replies. “Hardcore orange, corroded orange, falling apart orange, rusted orange.”

The actor then pulls up a file titled “Great idea #1” to reveal a solid square of orange, suggesting that be the colour they use.
He then suggests painting the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal in the same shade of orange.
While the Zoom call was fake, they really did use orange as a way to promote the film, with bright orange blimps seen floating over Santa Monica.
The pair played into the theme, wearing the matching outfits to the premiere.

Chalamet hugged Jenner and pulled her close as paparazzi snapped photos of the pair on the carpet.
The actor was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role as Marty Mauser, a young man determined to become a champion table tennis player.

He was nominated in the Best Male Actor category, while the director of the film, Josh Safdie, was snubbed.

The outing is a rare one from the couple, who have only attended one other red carpet event together.
Aside from the pair both flaunting it, the colour orange has gotten more publicity than usual lately.
Taylor Swift made the shade a major part of her new album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The Zoom skit came out one month after Swift’s album dropped; however, there’s no mention of the showgirl’s new signature colour in the video.
