The Boston Red Sox are running out of time to make a significant move ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline.
Wednesday marked an active day of trading across MLB, but the Red Sox weren’t involved. Instead, they watched as rumored trade targets Jhoan Duran (Philadelphia Phillies) and Ryan Helsley (New York Mets) got dealt. Relievers were in high demand as the San Francisco Giants traded Tyler Rogers to the Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates shipped Caleb Ferguson to the Seattle Mariners.
The Red Sox could use another reliable arm for their bullpen, but starting pitching and first basemen are atop their priority list. They have been linked to several starters, including Sandy Alcantara (Miami Marlins), Mitch Keller (Pittsburgh Pirates), Zac Gallen (Arizona Diamondbacks), and Merrill Kelly (Diamondbacks). They have been rumored to be showing interest in first basemen Yandy Diaz (Tampa Bay Rays) and Ryan O’Hearn (Baltimore Orioles).
After Wednesday’s 13-1 win over the Twins, Boston enters the trade deadline in the second American League Wild Card spot with a 59-51 record.
