India is set to host four ATP Challenger Tour events in 2026, with Bengaluru, Chennai, New Delhi and Pune lined up as the venues for these tennis tournaments.
The ATP Challenger Tour serves as the second tier of men’s professional tennis, sitting below the ATP Tour. The ITF World Tennis Tour events make up the third tier.
India had staged four ATP Challenger Tour tournaments in each of the previous two years as well.
However, two of those stops have been downgraded for the upcoming year with Chennai dropping from an ATP 100 to an ATP 50 event, while Pune’s Maha Open moves from an ATP 100 to 75.
The Bengaluru Open will remain India’s premier Challenger event, offering 125 ranking points, and will open the season on January 5.Â
The Chennai Open follows on February 9, before the Delhi Open (ATP 75) and the Maha Open in Pune take place in successive weeks.
Last season, India enjoyed success in doubles, with Anirudh Chandrasekar teaming up with Chinese Taipei’s Ray Ho to win the Bengaluru Open.Â
Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth clinched the doubles crown at the Maha Open in Pune.Â
However, Indian singles players were unable to make deep runs across the four tournaments. With the drop in ranking points for Chennai and Pune meets, Indian tennis players could get more shots in the main draw this season.Â
India will also face the Netherlands in the Davis Cup Qualifiers in Bengaluru on February 7-8 and is expected to host ITF World Tennis Tour and WTA events this year.
