A 21-year-old Princeton University student died on Sunday after being struck by a car while cycling in South Africa.
Kerry Grundlingh, a member of the Class of 2027, was a “highly accomplished” athlete on the women’s open rowing team, the university said in a statement. She died in her hometown of Johannesburg.
Grundlingh was part of the team that won the Ivy League Championship this past rowing season, the university said. Prior to starting college, she represented South Africa several times on its national teams.

At Princeton University, Grundlingh studied economics and served as a tutor on campus. She was also involved in multiple student organizations.
Grundlingh is survived by her parents and brother.
A livestreamed memorial service will be held on Aug. 1 in Johannesburg at 5 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
