Amanda Seyfried isn’t backing down on her Charlie Kirk comments.
“The Housemaid” actor opened up about previous remarks she’d made about the right-wing commentator’s views after his death, calling him “hateful.”
Kirk was shot and killed during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.
“I’m not fucking apologizing for that. I mean, for fuck’s sake, I commented on one thing,” the actor said in an article published in Who What Wear on Wednesday. “I said something that was based on actual reality and actual footage and actual quotes.”
“What I said was pretty damn factual, and I’m free to have an opinion, of course,” the actor added. “Thank God for Instagram. I was able to give some clarity, and it was about getting my voice back because I felt like it had been stolen and recontextualized — which is what people do, of course.”
After calling Kirk “hateful” just after his death, Seyfried quickly addressed the backlash her comment created in a more nuanced Instagram post.
Other celebrities, including Kristin Chenoweth and Rainn Wilson, also received blowback for comments they made about Kirk’s death.

“We are forgetting the nuance of humanity,” the actor wrote in September. “I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable. No one should have to experience this level of violence.”
“This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?” she added.
Other celebrities, including Kristin Chenoweth and Rainn Wilson, also received blowback for comments they made about Kirk’s death.
Chenoweth ― who called Kirk’s death “a heartbreak” ― said that the backlash to her remarks “nearly broke” her.
“It was tough on me, but I’m not going to answer any questions about it because I dealt with it,” the Broadway legend said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter in November.
“It nearly broke me, and that’s all I’m going to say,” she explained. “You probably know my heart, so you probably know.”
