The Detroit Red Wings finish up their trip through Western Canada on Thursday night, when they pay a visit to the Edmonton Oilers.

The Red Wings are in a tough part of their schedule, continuing a six-game road trip that sees them face a couple of the most talented teams in the NHL, as well as squads desperate for positive results to stay in the hunt for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

After losing to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a shootout almost a week ago, Detroit bounced back with a solid win over the Seattle Kraken last Thursday. Then, John Gibson and company shut out the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, before outlasting the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, extending the team’s point streak to six games, placing them first in the Atlantic Division.

Now, there is still lots of hockey to be played, but how the Wings have managed to respond after some tough losses weeks ago shows this team has some grit that can translate to success.

Detroit faces an Oilers team that might have been to the Cup Final in each of the past two seasons, but got off to a terrible start this year. However, Connor McDavid and his band of merry men are turning their fortunes around, making them postseason contenders once again.
