Sunrise family gathered to farewell “Beretts” after 22 years on the desk at Seven.

Sunrise this morning farewelled Mark Beretta after 22 years with the show.

The show concluded with “Beretts” surrounded by cast and crew and showered in farewell gifts.

“It’s just incredible. This is the ultimate privilege this job. The people you get to meet -not just the team here, or the sports people- the people in the street as we well know. Our viewers are just the most magnificent people,” he said.

Natalie Barr said, “We have loved it. We’ve had so many memories. But it’s not goodbye, because you are always part of the Sunrise family. And you’re going to be here doing lots and lots of stuff as well.”

“Good. Look forward to it,” he replied.

Mark Beretta recently opened up on his departure acknowledging the decision to step away from Seven was “a combination” of the network’s choice and his own.

“I could see what was coming and I didn’t want to hang around for that,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

“TV is tough. It’s never been tougher. In my 30 years, I’ve never seen anything like it. In my case, it just got to a point where it all came together at the right time. After 22 years I felt it was enough and I need a break.

“And, to be honest, it’s been a harrowing couple of years. There’s been a lot going on away from Sunrise and it’s time for a reset.”

Today’s farewell also featured video messages from Michael Usher, David Koch, Rebecca Maddern, Ash Barty, Pat Rafter, Cadel Evans, Sally Fitzgibbons, Harry Garside, Ricky Pointing and Nedd Brockmann.
