Android is under attack. Google warns two threats are now being exploited and has rushed out an emergency fix. But while Pixel owners received this right away, Samsung owners have to wait. Now there’s a “December surprise” for millions of Galaxy owners.
Per SammyFans, this “surprise” is for users of the company’s newest flagship, the Galaxy S25. “While everyone’s awaiting One UI 8.5 Beta, the company has a new security update.” That update is the critical December security release.

“The initial rollout has begun in South Korea, and a Global expansion is likely to follow soon. Keep an eye on the notification to install the new software. You can also check manually through Settings > Software update > Download and install.”
The same update is on its way to Galaxy S24 users as well. This is ahead of the “Samsung Galaxy S24 family (FE too) joining the One UI 8.5 Alpha test.”
SammyFans says the Galaxy-maker “an internal firmware has been spotted for the flagship Galaxy S24 series. The upcoming software update aims to improve the overall performance, design, and features of the Galaxy devices.”
As exciting as One UI 8.5 may be, and it will inevitably tighten various security and privacy features on Galaxy phones, the December security fixes are critical and cannot wait. Do not delay this. Install it on your phone as soon as it’s available.

The fact Pixels receive updates so much more quickly than recent Galaxy flagships remains a sore point for Samsung users. It’s the same with Android OS upgrades, and will be made worse now as Google shifts to more frequent releases.
As I’ve commented before, something needs to change for Android, given the disparity between Pixels and other OEMs when it comes to timely releases. Nothing highlights this more than emergency fixes for active attacks. Just as we’ve seen this month.
