Tottenham have been linked with numerous centre-backs so far this summer, with Jan Paul van Hecke the latest.
The Dutchman has been at Brighton since 2020 and has helped establish the Seagulls as European contenders.
At 25 years old, it is clear that the defender has plenty of potential and is now an international for the Netherlands.
However, van Hecke’s future at the Seagulls is looking more uncertain, with Tottenham now eyeing a move for the centre-back.

Thomas Frank has looked at numerous centre-backs so far this summer ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Illia Zabarnyi was heavily linked to Spurs, but he now appears to favour a move to PSG.
As a result, Tottenham will have to quickly move on to other targets, and according to Voetbal International (30 July), Frank could look to take advantage of van Hecke’s situation.
The outlet claims that the defender is refusing to sign a new deal at Brighton and is aiming to move on from the AMEX Stadium.

The Seagulls are desperate for van Hecke to renew and are even willing to make him the highest-paid player at the club.
However, the 25-year-old wants Champions League football, and while he won’t force a transfer, he will not renew his deal.
As a result, Brighton have slapped a £43.2 million price tag on van Hecke, with Newcastle making an inquiry this week.
Tottenham are also tracking the defender as his future remains uncertain going into August.

While the addition of van Hecke would be positive, Tottenham should not look to go all out for the Dutch international.
Cristian Romero now looks likely to stay at Spurs, with a new contract set to be offered.
On top of this, Luka Vuskovic has impressed in pre-season and has proved he could be a solid option this campaign.

Therefore, slapping £40m+ on van Hecke when other positions are in dire need of reinforcements would be unwise.
A new midfielder is badly needed, while an additional back-up striker would not go amiss.
