Fans of the popular Netflix series Emily in Paris are speculating about the fate of several characters as they eagerly await the release of season five. The romantic comedy-drama is set to return to the streaming platform on December 18, and sneak peeks from Netflix have left viewers buzzing with anticipation.

The series follows the adventures of Emily, portrayed by Lily Collins, who lands a job at a marketing firm in Paris and navigates new friendships, career challenges, and romantic entanglements. The upcoming season will continue where season four left off, with Emily encountering her latest love interest, Marcello, in Rome.

Netflix’s previews have sparked fan theories about Emily’s romantic future and potential betrayal from her best friend, who appears uncomfortably close to Emily’s ex-boyfriend, Alfie, in one of the clips. A TikTok user known for discussing global pop culture moments, Brit, expressed confusion over the plot hinted at in the trailer and shared her predictions for the characters’ storylines.

She stated: “Um, so my prediction for Alfie and Emily getting back together in season five was clearly wrong, because what’s this? If you haven’t seen it, when last season ended, I did a prediction that instead of Emily getting back together with Gabriel, she would get back together with Alfie.

“That is if her and Marcello don’t stay together, which they probably won’t. I do love Marcello.

“I really would love for him to be endgame. I think Emily is her most comfortable and natural and herself than [she’s been] in multiple seasons.

“If there was going to be a runner-up, I wanted it to be Alfie, and now they’re doing Alfie and Mindy, and it makes zero sense to me genuinely what is happening in this show?”

Brit suggested the show’s writers were attempting to create a “Friends vibe” by keeping storylines within the existing cast rather than bringing in fresh faces.

She explained: “That way it makes more sense instead of introducing new characters to be their partners, especially now that Camille is gone. But it just seems like a lazy plot point to me.

“Mindy and Emily are such strong friends. It makes zero sense for Mindy to go and then date one of her very serious ex-boyfriends that also happens to be around all the time. Then you’re putting her in the same shoes of Camille.

“Now she’s kind of the other woman in the friend group who has a friend dating an ex. I see what they’re doing. It doesn’t mean I like it.

“Really hoping this is just a fleeting boring plot point and it’s just a filler episode because I don’t see this working out in the long term.

“Gabriel was so toxic. Last season I’m genuinely just done with him. It’s Alfie or Marcello or nothing. I know what they’re gonna do.

“I know they’re going to have her and Marcello seemingly not work because Rome doesn’t like her and she feels most at home when she’s in Paris, thus making her break up with Marcello.

“Then Gabriel I’m sure will crawl his way back in towards the end of the season.

“We’ll probably get season six endgame with Gabriel and Emily, but I don’t like this.”
