Adelaide has made three changes for its Round 21 clash against Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval.

As revealed by Senior Coach Matthew Nicks on Thursday morning, defender Hugh Bond comes into the team for his first game of the season.

Adelaide Head of Football Adam Kelly said Bond’s inclusion was a great reward for the hard work he had put in at SANFL level this season.

“While Bondy hasn’t had the opportunity at AFL level this year, until this point, we have been really pleased with his development and the consistency of performance that he has shown across the year,” Kelly said.

“Hugh is a tough competitor who gives himself fully to the team and his role within that and that helps explain why he is held in high regard by his teammates and coaches.”

Veteran Brodie Smith has been recalled and will line-up in his first AFL game since Round 17.

“Brodie has clearly demonstrated strong form across the year, whether that be at AFL or SANFL level,” Kelly said.

“It is a credit to him that a player of his experience has been able to maintain his performance regardless of which level he is playing, and this is a great example of the squad mentality that exists in the playing group.”

Utility Isaac Cumming also comes back into the side, after being managed with lower-leg soreness for Adelaide’s win against Port Adelaide last week.

The match will be Cumming’s 100th, a milestone Kelly said the Club was excited to celebrate on Friday night.

“Isaac comes back into the lineup for his 100th AFL game. For a player, in such a short period of time, to have connected with our group the way that he has, and to become a really important member of our team, is a great credit to the way he conducts himself,” Kelly said.

“His energy and positivity is infectious and he is selfless in the way he goes about his footy.”

Max Michalanney comes out of the side, after suffering a hamstring injury against the Power last week.

Defender Rory Laird will be managed, while Luke Pedlar has been omitted.

The Crows take on Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval this Friday night, with the first bounce at 7.10pm (ACST).
