The Prince and Princess of Wales have released a new family portrait to coincide with their annual Christmas card.

The royal couple published the image on social media with the caption: “Wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas.”

The portrait was taken by photographer Josh Shinner in Norfolk in April this year.

In the image, Prince William and Princess Catherine are joined by their three children: 12-year-old Prince George, 10-year-old Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, who is seven.

They smile and pose in a lush green field dotted with yellow daffodils — which is considered the national flower of Wales.

The Christmas card marks another year in Catherine’s gradual return to public life, as she continues her recovery from cancer and chemotherapy treatment.

King’s Christmas portrait

Last week, King Charles gave a rare health update and announced his cancer treatment would be reduced in the new year.

The monarch described the milestone as a “blessing” and a testament to remarkable medical advances.

It has been almost two years since the king’s diagnosis was publicly revealed, and in that time, Buckingham Palace has seldom released details about his condition and prognosis.

It has never been revealed what type of cancer the king was diagnosed with, although it has been confirmed that he does not have prostate cancer.

While it is understood the 77-year-old king’s treatment will be significantly reduced next year, it will continue.

Earlier this month, Buckingham Palace released King Charles and Queen Camilla’s official Christmas card.

The card features a portrait taken of the royal couple in April, where they marked their 20th wedding anniversary during a trip to Rome to visit then-pope Francis at the Vatican.
