The Fiji Rakavi Football Union (FRU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Koli Sewabu as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Mr Sewabu has been acting in the role for the past six months, following the vacancy left by former CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu.
The FRU Board was unanimous in confirming Mr Sewabu’s appointment as CEO.
During his time as Acting CEO, Mr Sewabu has provided steady leadership and continuity across the Union’s operations, earning the confidence of the FRU Board and the Trustees.
Following an independent recruitment process with Maxumise, the Board confirmed Mr Sewabu’s appointment based on his strong performance across core CEO competencies, sound judgement and leadership qualities suited to driving organisational transformation.
A highly respected figure in Fiji Rugby, Mr Sewabu brings extensive experience both on and off the field. He previously served as National Development Manager for Fiji Rugby, where he played a key role in strengthening grassroots and high-performance pathways.
His coaching credentials include leading the Fiji Under-20 national team and assisting with the Fijiana 15s, contributing significantly to the development of elite players and national programmes.
Mr Sewabu is also a former Flying Fijian, giving him a deep understanding of the game from a player’s perspective. He played 27 tests for the Flying Fijians, featured in two Rugby World Cups in 1999 and 2003. He also played professionally with Bordeaux Bègles, Gloucester, Yamaha Jubilo and Manawatu, before transitioning to coaching and development.
Beyond Fiji Rugby, Mr Sewabu has worked with Oceania Rugby in the Sport for Development space, supporting initiatives that use rugby as a tool for community development and social impact across the Pacific. He is also a World Rugby Trainer, reflecting his strong technical expertise and commitment to global best practice.
Mr Sewabu has resigned from his role as Rugby Director prior to accepting the position of Chief Executive Officer. The Board position is now vacant, and the Fiji Rakavi Football Union will follow due process to fill the vacancy.
The FRU Board is confident that Mr Sewabu’s leadership, experience and vision will guide the organisation forward as it continues to strengthen its domestic competitions, national teams and development programmes.
The Fiji Rakavi Football Union congratulates Koli Sewabu on his appointment and looks forward to his leadership as Chief Executive Officer.
